Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

If you have had a traumatic life experience such as abuse, witnessed violence, or had a life threatening physical event, you may have symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilence, negative thoughts or mood disturbances. We are here to help.

Although PTSD is common among veterans of war, anyone can develop this disorder. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, "PTSD affects 3.6% of the U.S. adult population—about 9 million individuals. About 37% of those diagnosed with PTSD are classified as having severe symptoms. Women are significantly more likely to experience PTSD than men."

You are not alone and you do not have to continue to suffer. The majority of our staff is trained extensively in treating trauma and recognizing the symptoms and impact.  Your therapist can help you understand the protective behaviors utilized as a result of life threatening and scary experiences, abuse, and traumatic loss. We offer a variety of trauma focused techniques and interventions.  Clinicians at Graceful Therapy are trained in methods of therapy that are particularly successful at treating the effects of trauma. We use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Brainspotting, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy techniques, Equine Assisted Therapy, and relationship counseling tools.

These approaches have proven effective in allowing clients to process experiences without having to retell difficult stories like traditional talk therapy.  Brainspotting is an innovative and powerful tool that our therapists use to help our clients heal from trauma, emotional or body pain, dissociation, and many other challenging symptoms. This method utilizes neurobiology and the client-therapist attunement to create lasting change and healing. We aim to help individuals rewire brain pathways associated with traumatic events through healthy connection and vulnerability in a safe environment. If you or a loved one is suffering from PTSD, please reach out to schedule an appointment and begin healing today.
